  1. My most cherished knit/crochet item is a baby blanket that I knitted in high school. I was taught to knit by my home ec teacher in 9th grade. This was my first knitting project that I completed. By learning to knit,I was able to teach myself to crochet which is my craft of choice these days.

  2. I made a pink wool country sweater for my sister last Christmas. It turned out exactly like the picture in the book. I made fabric ties to close it with a bow. My sister wears it everywhere in the winter. She even wears it to work at Weight Watchers and brags about her sister who made the sweater when people ask about it! That makes me feel good.

  3. My most cherished item…..hmm. Well if we are speaking of an inanimate object here…it would be the tiered cake plate which held my wedding cake 50 years ago. It is special because the first person in my family to use this cake plate was my Great Grandmother Jenny Stuart Boze. Next to use it was my own Grandmother Edna Livingston Boze and then myself. The cake plate has passed down from bride to bride. It skipped my mother’s generation because no one used it at their wedding. I’m hoping that one of my granddaughters will use it for their wedding so that it can be passed on to them as well. Because it isn’t very large it is too small for most wedding cakes. Grandmother Jenny was married in 1887…so this plate although it probably has limited financial value is valuable to me.

  4. Cheryl Babcock says:

One of my most cherished crochet items is a doily my grandma made with me. She taught me how to crochet when I was about 8 years old. I remember sitting at her side as she explained every step. She passed away several years ago but she instilled a love of the art of crochet that has never left me!

  5. My most cherished crocheted item is a tablecloth that my husband’s Nana made for us at the age of 90. It was the last large item she ever made – took her a year & half to make for us. Both of us cherish it so much & take it out for special occassions.

  6. My most cherrished item in the first never ending granny I made. I made it when my son was two and have added on to it now that he is five. I love that it’s still his favorite blanket. It’s full of mistakes but he loves it :)

  7. My item I cherish the most is actually two. A knit hat and sweater set that I wore as a baby. I don’t know where Momma got it, but I do know it is almost 50 years old (oops…did I say that out loud). It is part of my collection of keepsakes.

  8. Lois Dauel says:

My sister-in-law crocheted an afghan for my husband and me as a wedding gift 30 years ago. She has since died of cancer but every time her afghan is used, I remember her and the keepsake our family treasures in her memory.

  9. My most cherrished item is an incomplete ripple stitch afghan my mother was knitting. She stopped knitting due to joint problems later diagnosed as cancer. I am learning how to knit so that one day I can finish it for her and pass it one to my grand-daughter.

  10. i cherish the idea of the matching, reversible cabled golf sweaters sweaters i made for my sis and her hubby so long ago … she saw a large afghan i made for my neighbor and asked for the sweaters. the afghan was a reverible cable pattern using a black and white varigated bulky dazzleaire yarn that weighed nothing; it worked out in blocks of alternating white and black. i made reversible cable raglan sweaters, no pattern, one extra large, one medium and both of them came out with the same alternating black and white blocks. they wore them for golfing for years. i couldn’t make them today and make them come out like they did.

  11. My most cherished item is a doily crocheted mostly by my grandmother and finished by my mother, both of whom have passed away. I have repaired it twice. My grandmother was born in 1895 and died in 1960 and my mother passed away in 1977. I love this intricate doily.

  12. Brenda Flanders says:

My most cherished item is the pink and blue granny square baby blanket my Stepmom made for my Firstborn son, in 1980. I hope to hand it down to his Firstborn someday.

  13. Stana Friend says:

My most cherished crochet item was made for me years and years ago. My great grandmother made me a bright pink crocheted poncho when I was about 4 years old. It has the huge pom poms on the ends of the crocheted cords that run through the top of it. I have it in storage as it is now 39 years old. It still looks brand new. I take it out every few years just to look at it. I can’t wait to have a grand-daughter to share it with.

  14. My most cherished item is the crocheted bedspread and tablecloth that I made for my Mom and I got them back after she died

  15. Cindy Floyd says:

My most prize gift is an afghan that I sold to a friend who paid me to make it. She had it 6 months and past away. When she did, her husband gave it back to me to remember my friend. He said she would have wanted it to go back to me. So I think of her and my mom (they both died on the same day just within hours of each other).

  16. knittingdancer on Ravelry says:

My most cherished crochet items are some crocheted doilies that my mother crocheted when I was real young.

  17. Monica Pinnick says:

My most cherished crochet item is an afghan
that my Grandmother started when she taught
me how to crochet when I was 6. She didn’t
finish it and at the age of 20 I found it in some
boxes while helping her move. I then finished
the afghan and now 22 years later it resides
on the back of my sofa.

  18. Josephine Gigi says:

I received an afghan in tunisian crochet as a gift for my bridal shower 23 years ago from a great aunt on my husband’s side of the family. I thought it was so beautiful and was determined to teach myself this stitch which started it all for me with learning how to crochet. The afghan still sits proudly on my sofa and I now have a collection of them that I have made over the years. Thank you Aunt Katie for the inspiration!

  19. MommomBrenda says:

My most cherished item is an afgan my grandmother crocheted for me when I was much, much younger. It is unbelievable how well the older yarns held up compared to the yarn today.

  20. carol morgan says:

My most cherished item is a crocheted baby blanket I won for my daughter before she was born. I was so happy to get it bcause i wanted my daughter to have something handmade. So when I won it, it made my day. When i got home i started crying I was so happy.

  21. JJMolvik says:

“Cables After Whiskey” sweater. I started it long before my skills were adequate, yet I suffered through it. My husband raves every time I wear it.

  22. Deb Meyer says:

My most cherished crochet items are doilies that my Mom made. She really enjoys crocheting doilies with that fine thread!

  23. My most cherished item is a wheelchair/lap blanket that I knitted for my father (my own pattern) when he was admitted to hospital in his final months. He was always cold and it was with him all the time, both in his wheelchair & on his bed. I was with him when he passed away (with his blanket on the bed) and took it with me. It’s on my bed now.

  24. Katy Lamb says:

Even though she only had 30% vision left in one eye, my Granny crocheted a blue afghan……mostly by feeling the stitches….I believe it’s called the blanket stitch pattern. It has 3 holes where she missed a stitch. This was the last thing she crocheted before she passed away in 1995. I have many things she made, but this is my most cherished. She taught me to crochet when I was 9 yrs old. Still miss you Granny.

  25. Jena goshia says:

I have a dainty crocheted collar that my grandmother made me when I was a child. I wore it with sweaters on special occasions. Decades later, it’s in a frame with a picture of my beloved late grandma!

  26. My most cherished knitted item is a girasole lace blanket that I made, and then gave to my son and his wife, even though I wanted to keep it for myself!

  27. My most cherished crochet item is an afghan that my mother crocheted for me. I’ve carried that afghan everywhere I’ve gone. Through 3 moves….it is never packed in a box….it goes in the car with me so I have it.

  28. My most cherished crochet item is a jacket that I made myself.

  29. Most cherished is a blanket my grandma made for me and one she made for my son. They both passed last year 2 months to the day from each other. They were both crocheted with a prayer in each stitch.

  30. Liana Cuffman says:

My most cherised item is a scarf that I knitted out of ribbon yarn that is rainbow colored. I knitted the scarf for a friend of mine a few months ago. The rainbow is a Christian reference. When you refract light, you get the rainbow colors. Jesus is the light of the world and wearing the scarf is like being surrounded by God’s light.

  31. Michelle says:

My most cherished item….I actually have several. Playing in my Great Grandmothers jewelry box while she knitted in her rocking chair & she told me stories. Sitting on the coach next to my Grandmother in the summer learning how to cut lace from a huge bolt of lace & how to do needlepoint. Because of them I am in love with handcrafting.

  32. helen robitille says:

my favourite item(s) is my knitted “hooded sweatshirt” .. I love the pattern so much I’ve made four of them; one for bed in the winter, one with fuzzy trim in eyelash yarn to wear out, one for hanging around the house, and a cotton version for warmer weather. I can’t get enough of hoodies… and they’re so comfy and fun when I’ve clicked them out myself :D

  33. Linda Runnells says:

My most treasured and cherished item is a pink bat wing sweater and ruffle dress I knitted for my youngest daugher when she was just an infant. I had so much fun and it was beautiful!

  34. smfsprout says:

I still cherish the blanket my grandmother crocheted for me when I was a little girl. The fact that I’m now a grandmother makes it that much sweeter as I crochet blankets for my grandchildren and great nephews/nieces.

  35. Linda Ferrito says:

    My most cherished knit item
Is a 70′s Poncho I made when I first started knitting. Nine compares to it. I have made many after and none have fit me better I just love the shape and feel….

  36. My first ever knit project, was a little white crib blanket that I made my step-sister’s unborn daughter. It was the first blanket she used when the baby was born, now that she’s about to be 4, she still uses it and snuggles with it whenever she is tired or sad. Even though we live so far away now, it makes me happy my niece still uses this item I made with so much love for her.

  37. I think it would have to be a vest I made for my oldest daughter many many years ago. Lavendar, offwhite, and gray with the stripes on the diagonal. I think it is cherished because it really was the first thing I knit – finished – and it fit!!!!

  38. janet holderman says:

Any thing that someone makes for me! Grandmother’s shawls, recently a friend made a dish cloth for me..it is to pretty to use!

  40. Ellen Hansen says:

My grandmother crocheted each of us a granny square afghan before she passed away, so we would have something to remember her by (as though she would ever be forgotten). I also have the baby blanket she knitted for me 66 years ago, as well as every (and there were plenty) sweater set she made for my daughter. My own granddaughters now wear those garments.

  41. Nancy Wright says:

My husband prizes the Icelandic sweater I made for him years ago. It’s a contemporary pull-over with a variety of stitches worked into blocks of color. Most of the yarn is natural colors, with a touch of tomato red wool worked in for accent. It’s the only garment I’ve seen my husband fold up and put back in its place in his closet.

  42. My most cherished item is a shrug sweater I made for my mom, my first project. No matter how many mistakes are in that shrug, my mom wears it proudly and comments how nice it is, that makes me happy and the support I need to try other projects and not give up. I’m a beginner in both knitting and crocheting.:)

  43. When I became pregnant for the first time, I taught myself to knit and made a footed sleeper with drop-seat made with variegated pastels. I couldn’t wait for the baby to arrive and wear it!

  44. My most cherished item–I knit a beautiful pastel sweater for my mom since she was always chilly. But, it turned out that her being chilly was actually a low blood count related to a very aggressive cancer. My mom wore her sweater all the time–she said it was one of the few things that could keep her warm :) When she won her battle with cancer, my dad made sure I had mom’s sweater to keep with me. He wasn’t sure whether it was the thick yarn or all the love in it that kept my mom so warm.

  45. Kathleen says:

My most cherished item is a hand crocheted long vest made by my cousin in the 70′s. Today, it remains in pristine condition but 2 sizes too small. The vest itself is single crochet with hand embroided design on front panels, along with embroided outlined edges. Simply beautiful with impeccable stitchery.

  46. Pam Dyer says:

My favorite is a baby afghan I made for a newborn when I lived in NJ. Now I am happily doing it again for my best friends soon-to-be first grand baby. I can’t wait to give it to them, very soft pink, very lacey, & very girly.

  55. Michelle says:

My most cherished is a baby afgan that I made for my baby daughter’s bed. It was crocheted mile-a-minute pattern that I wish I could find again. It was the only thing I ever put in a state fair and won a third place ribbon. (would have preferred first place lol)

  56. Patricia L says:

My most cherished item is a crocheted afghan. A wonderful woman with a huge heart made many afghans. She presented them to the spouses of New York Air National Guard as they were leaving for deployment to the Middle East. Her message to us was that when we were lonely to wrap ourselves in our afghan and it would feel like a warm hug from our loved one. That afghan got me through a couple of deployments. :)

  57. Bev Moon says:

I have some doilies that were crocheted by my maternal grandmother–they must be at least 60 years old as I can remember them being in her house when I was very young. She also taught me to crochet when I was about 6 years old. If we had a fire I’d grab them and the Double Wedding Ring quilt she made Tom and I when we got married over 50 years ago now.

  58. Carol Davis says:

My most prized knit item is a ribbon sweater I knitted about 25 years ago. It had lantern sleeves and every time I wore it people would stop me. Also a beautiful cardigan with a fox collar I knitted for my wonderful Mother. My Mom was so proud of it she cried. I am just now learning to crochet and I love it.

  59. Cheryl Shmilovich says:

Though my mom taught me to knit and my grandmother taught me to crocher, and I have made many things from Afghans to booties, my favorite piece is something I did not make. My mom was sick and, as usual, was knitting. She asked me what I wanted and refused to take no for an answer. She was sick and I didn’t want her to wear herself out. We agreed on a navy blue cardigan and she went to work on it. When she finished it, the sleeves were too long. This was not like my mom. She was a perfect knitter. Didn’t have to look, she just worked. She took the sweater and said she’s fix it, but she never did. She passed away. I have the sweater. She had managed to rip part of one sleeve. It is the dearest thing I own. I have a sequined sweater she made and countless other things. The one that means the most is the last one. There will never be anymore.

  60. Deonne Hanson says:

My most cherished item I received was a crocheted doily from my grandmother a few years back, she just turned 100 a few weeks ago.

My most cherished crochet pattern is a waffle weave baby afghan. I’ve been making it for at least 22 years!

  63. Patricia says:

I cherish the crocheted afghan my daughter made for me several years ago. Shortly after she gave it to me, she moved across the country to pursue her dreams and has done well. The afghan stays on my bed. It has kept me warm on cold nights and during recuperation from surgery. Whenever I look at it, I see the stitches that were finely crafted by my daughter’s hand, and it makes me feel good to know that I taught her well and she has been able to make me something that has brought me so much comfort.

  64. Michelle says:

I have a wrap/scarf/thingy that is my most cherished hand made posession. A group of us ladies got together at lunch for the sole purpose of me teaching them to knit. It was so much fun! It was nice outside and we went out to knit a lot. My birthday came in November and each one of the ladies had knitted a block and one of the ladies sewed all the blocks together! Each one has the character of the lady who knitted it and all of the “new knitter” charm you could imagine! It made me cry and I love it! It is more valuable to me than any other hand made item I have!

  65. Pam Avery says:

My most treasured crochet item is a baby blanket my “mother” Miss Minnie made for my oldest daughter Alyssa. I still have it 32 yrs later. To me it’s priceless! She also crocheted me several kitchen potholders which I also treasure.

  67. Jodi Mayes says:

My most cherished is my very own baby blanket which I still have in my possession. Looking forward to passing it on some day to my daughter when she has a child of her very own. :o )

  68. My most cherished item is the hand-knitted baby blanket my mother made when I was expecting my first child…a daughter is is 44 today. That blanket has warmed both my daughters and five of my grandchildren. It looks as beautiful today as it did 44 years ago and I look forward to the day my great grandchildren will be able to use it. Mum, you’re gone 11 years now and I still miss you every day. Thank you for the precious gifts you gave me.

  69. I had never knitted or crocheted anything in my life but when I was pregnant with my first child I decided that I wanted to make a baby afghan. Well, the wonderful ladies that I worked with helped me with the pattern and putting it together. Now that I’m a more accomplished knitter I can see the mistakes I made. I still think about how proud I was to wrap my newborn daughter in that little afghan.

  70. My most cherished crocheted item is a doily made and framed for hanging by my mother, who loved to crochet more than eat! I lost her 2 years ago. It says: “Donna, Children are like snowflakes, each unique.” It is simply amazing to me.

  71. My favorite pattern is a crocheted basket that my grandmother used to make. It is designed to be sewn onto a bathroom or hand towel. She made them one year for Christmas presents for all 13 of her grandchildern. When arthritis got too bad for her, she gave me all the patterns she had, since I was the only grandchild who crocheted. I came across the basket pattern when going through her magazines. Sometimes I sit in the evenings and just go through those patterns dating back to the 20′s and 30′s and fond memories of her come back to me.

  72. Linda Campbell says:

My most cherished crocheted item is the pattern that I used to make my grandson’s sweater, hat and bootie set. It was the only time that I was able to use this pattern since I only had granddaughters up until then. He is still out one and only.

  73. Michelle Houser says:

I cherish the crochet blankets my mother made for my son when he was a baby. She taught me how to crochet, and I love making hats, scarves and other items! Right now I am making a crochet blanket for a baby in the family arriving in a few months and I’m so excited! It will be a surprise and I hope the parents love it like I love the blankets made for my baby!

  74. My most cherished pattern is difficult to pick because I have all of my grandmothers patterns that she made when I was a child. If I had to choose one it would be the purse pattern of a doll that she made me when I was only three. You inserted an old oatmeal canister in it to hold its shape. I wish I still had the purse she made from it for me but it was wornout years ago.

  75. Pat Irish says:

I have a pattern for crocheted red sneaker booties with white socks that I make. I have so many cherished memories of family/friends opening the package with handmade booties for their babies.

  76. My dear MIL knit the most beautiful receiving blanket when my oldest child was born. We’ve used it only to bring our babies home from the hospital. It’s a new family heirloom.

  77. Antonia Cabal says:

I’d have to say it’s the Cthulhu I made, though my husband likes the dice bag I made him.

  78. I made a Precious Moments doll for a friend a few years ago that turned out much better than I thought I could ever do. It looked exactly like it should and I was so excited to be able to give a friend such a special gift. I am so thankful I took a picture of it. I also made a Noah’s Ark blanket and animals for a friend’s baby and was also pleased with those results. It was torture to sew all the tiny granny squares together, but worth the look on her face. Also took a picture of it so that I can admire it once in a while.

  79. My most treasured and used crochet pattern are the house slippers I was given by my grandmother you can make them for any size foot from baby to size 14 mens and larger. I don’t know how many I have given as baby shower and Christmas gifts.
    debbie

  80. I have a wonderful shawl that my mom, that she made over 30 years ago. I know she crocheted many hours on it. Because she crochet this I learn how to knit and crochet.

  81. My grandmother knitted in butterfly stitch a cardagan. She died 15 years ago but my mom held on to it and gave it to me about 3 years ago. My grandmother wore it all the time. I rarely wear it because it’s too special to me and I’m afraid it will fall apart from washing too much.

  82. UH oh didn’t read right. I have A crocheted afghan that my grandmother made my first child. Each of my 2 have come home in it and each of my 2 grandchildren have come home in it as I passed it down to my son and his wife when they were expecting their first child.

  83. Patty Stone says:

It’s hard to pick just one but if I had to pick it would be my oldest son’s baby afghan. It was made by a very dear co-worker who passed away several years ago. It will soon be used to by his first born due in Oct.

  84. Diane A. says:

My most prized crochet item is a

That is good enough for me….

  86. Rebecca W says:

I don’t have one. The women in my life were far to busy to take time to crochet or knit, let alone have a pattern. I am completely self taught.

My number one all time favorite pattern is for a rose motif baby bonnet made using SpeedCroSheen and a “B” hook.

Was it a gift or did you make it yourself?
This was the first bonnet I had ever made and it was for my one and only baby girl, 1978.

  89. Cris Hays says:

My most cherished item was a crocheted pancho that was made especially for me by a close friend of my mothers when I was 9. I loved the pancho and wore it everywhere. In fact, I still have it.

  90. Michelle says:

My most cherished and coveted is the Rainbow Ripple baby blanket from Leisure Arts #191. I’ve made several and even a queen size from this pattern and it’s always well received. The color combinations are endless.

  91. Susan Rutledge says:

I learned to crochet when I was eight years old and I taught my mother to crochet when I was ten. The last thing my mom crocheted before she died in 2000 was a doily in filet of back to back hearts for me. She told me that one heart was hers and the other heart was mine when she gave it to me. It’s the most cherished item that I possess.

  92. Judy Saxby says:

My most cherished item I ever made was a crocheted afghan. It’s was very large and took me quite a while to finish The afghan was made by basically using 2 different stitches. It was the border of this afgan that made it the most cherished project. You see when the border was finished, it had 12 beautiful Angels. It was so awesome that I ended up giving it to a gentleman that was terminally ill with HIV. I’m really not sure who cherished it more. He told me he would wrap it around him and he would feel so warm. It actually got him starting to pray to our Lord, and he asked the Lord forgiveness
It was truly amazing. I still have the pattern if anyone is interested!
    Respectfully ,
    Judy Saxby

  93. Baby blanket that my Mom knitted for my son’s baptism. Has alot of detail and some flowers embroidered on it. She passed away in 1999. Hope to see it used by grandchildren someday.

I have a red coat with fuzzy white coat that was knitted by my mother when I was a toddler. Both my son and daughter wore it when they were small, I am 49 and my kids are 18 & 28. It had a matching hat at one time, been gone along time, always wished I still had the hat too.

  96. I guess it was a simple dish cloth I knitted for a friend who was having a hard time. She was so touched that she framed it.

  97. Karie Naquin says:

My most exciting crochet projects are when I make blankets for Project Linus. We crochet or knit child- and teenage-sized blankets for children with devastating diseases who are airlifted to medical facilities, and for kids who spend time in the hospital. It is 100% anonymous, and we don’t know where in the world the blankie will be flown. The project was started years ago by two pilots who volunteered to fly children to the treatment centers. The pilots noticed that their little passengers felt better whena they were given their own colorful afghan that they could keep forever. They provided the blankets out of pocket, and people started donating items they had made. We work our initials secretly into the blankets. That is my very favorite part of crocheting…..working in my initials. (:

  102. mary wierman says:

It is a crochet doily my mother taught me how to crochet when I was four years old. Since then I have graduated to yarn crocheting baby blankets for my family and friends.

  103. My favourite pattern is a feather and fan baby blanket that I have made lots of time for family and friends. It always looks beautiful no matter what colour or ply of wool used.

  104. Desiree Cook says:

The most cherished gift I made was a baby hat and blanket for my new granddaughter that is due on Friday the 25th of April. I have been an advid knitter for awhile but have had a stroke and had to learn to knit again. I have lost my fine motor skills on the right side.

  105. Lora McIntire says:

My most cherished knitted item is my Aran cabled sweater that my late grandmother made for me when I was in college 23 years ago. I did not knit at the time, so I did not realize the amount of time and work that went into making it. Grandma basically had to knit that sweater three times in order to make it fit – there was a lot of frogging. Now that I knit, I realize what a treasure that not only that sweater is, but what a treasure my Grandma will always be!

  106. Dianne Bullach says:

My aunt knit an afghan for everyone in the family in the feather & fan pattern, so I’d have to say that I cherish our set of 5 of these. After she died, I found her pattern, taught myself to knit, and made another feather & fan afghan as my first project.

  107. Suzan Martinez says:

I have my Grandmothers 1957 Singer Sewing machine. Complete with her records of making the payments. It was also the year I was born. I made 2 of my prom dresses on it and one of my daughters proms dresses on it. and a several other items.

  108. Renee Judson says:

My most cherished item is a scarf I made in 9th grade Home Ec. class, that was in 1972. it is the warmest scarf I ever used.

  109. It would have to be the Afghan my mother crocheted for me years ago. It still sits proudly on the back of my couch and still looks good after all these years. I will treasure it always and yes, she taught me to crochet and I love it!!

  110. Carol Bromund says:

My most cherished crocheted item? We had better make that plural, because I am crocheting as many baby items as I possibly can! Blankets, hats, booties and toys! I have several grandchildren of the marrying age and if all of them have babies at the same time, that would put a lot of pressure on me, so I decided to start now to make things for their babies. I’m having so much fun doing this that I don’t want to stop, and of course, there were times when I needed a baby gift and walla! I already had one made!

  111. Jennifer Landry says:

My most cherished crochet item is the crocheted baby blanket my mother crocheted for me 33 years ago. I loved the fact that I had a blanket she had made for me, when she first gave it to me. Now that I have learned how to crochet, and know how much work goes into each crocheted item, I have a new appreciation for such a wonderful blanket. Not only does it have history, but it was made with lots of love.

  113. I just love a colorful doily that my Mom made to match a favorite vase of mine.

  114. Sandy Smith says:

A crocheted rose design afghan that I made for my daughter. I originally made one to give away as a door prize at a Christmas party for the local American Legion and Auxiliary, then when my daughter was disappointed she didn’t get it, I promised to make another one for her with yellow roses!

  115. Tricia Spangler says:

My most cherished item is a set of baby booties, hand warmers and a hat that I made for my future grandchild. I don’t have a grandchild yet, but when I do, I will be ready!

  116. My most cherished knitted pattern is for a cabled scarf I made for my grandson for Christmas.

  117. Sandie Dodgson says:

My most cherished items are the ones (mostly afghans) that I’ve crocheted for friends and family.

  118. Jeannette Kline says:

I made Santa and Elf stockings for my mom and dad (and also a Santa for my nephew Steven). The Santa had a loopy beard and hair and pink cheeks. Steven’s was so overloaded over the years that the loops came out as it stretched and stretched, and the Elf now resides with my son-in-law in Australia. It wouldn’t be Christmas without those stockings! I recently found the pattern and made one for a new great-nephew. I can’t think of those stockings without smiling.

  119. Kimberly Canale says:

My most cherished crochet item is a purple and white ripple afgan that my Gramma made for my husband. She never made me anything but she welcomed my husband into the family with this gift!! She was a very loving and beautiful woman inside and out. As I cuddle with it, I feel like she is sending me a hug from Heaven!!! And yes, I use it more than my hubby – I don’t give him a chance to use it unless he cuddles with me!!!!

  120. Amy Strzala says:

My most cherished item is the afghan that my Great Grandmother,Grandmother,Two Great Aunts and my mother all contributed squares to make. Its like a piece of family history.I plan on passing the afghan and the story down to my daughter some day…and maybe she will in turn give it to one of her two daughters.

  121. my most cherished piece of crochet is at least 80 years old. my mother’s mother (and my mom and me!) would rather do almost anything than ‘woman’s work’. my grandmother died 26 years ago just after the birth of my 3rd child. i never knew that she crocheted since i knew she’d do anything to flee the house to fish, garden, or pick berries – a wonderful way to spend a summer! but, after her death (at which time i was not a crocheter) each of her 5 kids took things from her home that they cherished. i never knew about this item my mom treasured. when mom was about 5 yrs old (she’s now 89), her mom crocheted a pink sweater for her baby doll! mom had it stuffed in a drawer. one day after seeing all the crocheting i was doing, she dug around to find the doll sweater. she gave it to me. i’ve never been a doll fan, being a tom boy all my life, but i love this connection to my grandmother who was a wonderful woman. i had a tough childhood in some ways and her home was one place where i was always accepted just the way i was. the doll sweater is such a fantastic reminder of my mamaw’s generous spirit.

  122. peggy kolesar says:

crocheted mittens using a popcorn stitch…I made some bright variegated ones for myself just using a single crochet & everyone who sees them raves about them & wants a pair..I’ve also made sets & given them away at gatherings…it’s so easy to make a oair in a night or take them on the road & work on them during a lunch break or while in traffic/construction…

  123. I have quite a few things big and small that my mother crocheted. She was a very skilled and prolific crafter. I treasure them all, but I think the most cherished are the snowflakes made from thread. I decorate my house and tree with them every year. It’s really hard to narrow it down to just one thing.

  124. Catherine Gard says:

My most cherished item I made was a pink skirt I made for my now 11 year-old daughter. She wore it to her ice-skating performance about a year ago which had a spring theme. It was short enough that she could skate in and it was just perfect. She outgrew it, but I am in the process of making a new one.

  125. Kim Lennie says:

My favorite is a crocheted stocking that I made for my whole family one year. Ever since then I’ve continued to make this stocking and give it away or sell to dozens of people. It became that popular. It’s a fun project that takes about 48hrs to make which is what I like best.

  126. I made a rectangular filet doily with Maple leaves out of size 40 cotton about 20 years ago.

  127. My favorite pattern is a toddler crochet sun dress. I made it for my friends new granddaughter. They loved it and showed it off to friends and now I am making another.

  128. Kae Smith says:

My favorite crochet pattern is a snowflake pattern for babies my mother-in-law found. I don’t know how many baby afghans I’ve made using this pattern. My favorite knitting pattern is called Tic-Tac-Toe. I knitted an afghan using turquoise sparkle yarn. I got a Grand Champion in 4-H. I still use the pattern. I’m knitting an afghan right now for a grand-niece’s high school graduation gift. These are my favorite and my go-to patterns.

  129. My first pair of socks. They were so hard! I didn’t think i would ever finish them.

  130. Jennifer Tavernier says:

Ach! It is probably too late – But it is a pair of curly toed elf slippers I figured out how to make on the knifty knitter looms. When I first got into looming I was intrigued by the symmetry (eveness) of the stitches (I can’t draw or crochet a straight line – or even 2 stitches that look alike) Needless to say, I was hooked. However, I wasn’t really interested in hats or scarves – I wanted wild things, and mitts, and things I can’t get easily or cheaply here. So I figured them out! LOL! Love them and I wear them all the time! Loom knit and crochect seem to go hand and hand – I am addicted! It’s been a year, and going full bore.

  131. Well I have not made anything for myself, yet. I have to say of my tools, I really love the current loom knitting tool, it fits all of my looms peg channels. I do love the things I am making for foster kids, they really make me smile!

  132. Anna Marie G. says:

An afghan made for my daughter as an infant by my mother-in-law. Now at 38 my daughter still has it.

  133. Linda Kluck says:

I made a cape for my daughter’s First Communion about 30 years ago. She thought I couldn’t crochet and was impressed with the finished project. All three of my grand daughters wore it for their First communion.

  134. I have hat I made myself last fall, the Brambles hat, out of MadelineTosh Worsted in a deep ox blood color. I love how it turned out, I think it’s so beautiful, and I wore it all fall and winter. I am NOT a hat person, but I think this hat changed my mind. And I got tons of compliments on it.

  135. I have a sweater from my Grandma Peg…i Just love it=)

  136. Margie Lee says:

My favorite crochet pattern is an antique christening/blessing dress pattern made from crochet thread with pink silk ribbon. My Mom made it for me and my daughter wore it also. It’s in my cedar chest for her daughter to wear. My mama made them for all her daughters and the first daughter wears it and then passes it down to her first daughter. She also made them for all the other granddaughters to start their own tradition of passing their dress down to their first daughter. She taught me how to make them and after she passed away 5 years ago I continued to carry on the tradition of making them for my all my granddaughters, nieces and my nieces daughters. So grateful I can do this for my beautiful angel Mama!

  137. My favorite cherished item is my stuffed cat, Silver. My grandmother got him for me for my first Christmas with S & H green stamps. I carried him everywhere and he is “Velveteen Rabbit Real” status. Although my grandmother had polio as a child which affected her right index finger, she still stitched him up and replaced his feet and his body after most of his fur had been loved off. To keep him stable as possible, he now wears a pair of tiny sweatpants and I knitted a tiny sweater for him. He now resides on my jewelry armoire next to my bed.

  138. Carla Parsons says:

One of my most cherished crocheted items is a ripple afghan my grandmother made for my husband and me as a Christmas gift. The funny part was that I gave her the yarn as a gift for her birthday. I still have it in my living room and am glad to have it as a rememberance of her.

  139. Barbara Kryger-Giese says:
