We think it’s so cliche that women are the only people who can knit and crochet. Regardless of sex, it shouldn’t be an embarrassment to do something you love. You can be the manliest man who secretly loves to dive into a good romance novel, cook a great meal or even craft. That’s right, we’ve seen more and more men getting into the crafting world, including knitting and crochet! These two yarn crafts are such a fun hobby to get into. Whether yarn crafts just fell into your lap or something unfortunate happened to help you recover, it’s a great skill to attain and hopefully keep.
A man named McCal Roberts was in a kitchen restaurant when an large box of foil fell on him cutting his hand open. This cut required multiple stitches and after healing, McCal noticed he couldn’t move one of his fingers. His doctor recommended the odd treatment of knitting.
“When the doctor suggested I try knitting and crocheting, I said, ‘well that isn’t too masculine’,” said Mr Roberts. “I said, jokingly, ‘can’t I lift some bricks or something instead?’” His doctor said he needed to move his finger 5,000 times a day in order to get the motion back. He had a mentor to help teach him how to knit and how to crochet and after 31 days of practice he finally got it. McCal made hats, scarves and mittens with his newly acquired talent. “It is very relaxing,” he said. “It is also time-consuming, but at least you have something to show for your time.” He learned to love the craft and all the creative possibilities there are.
